Running in Zagreb This Week? Here’s Why I’m Packing SPF 30+
After recovering from a recent cold (long story…), I’ve been easing back into my afternoon runs—and honestly, given my recent recovery, the 2–5 PM time frame will likely prove to be the most suitable for my running sessions. The only catch? This week in Zagreb, the sun is going full power, and the UV index is rising fast. ☀️π♂️
So while I’m thrilled to be running again, I’m taking sun safety seriously.
☀️ Zagreb UV Index Forecast (June 9–15)
Day | Time Range | UV Index (Estimated) | Protection Level Needed |
---|---|---|---|
Mon, 9th | 2–5 PM | 5–6 (High) | SPF 30+, hat/sunglasses |
Tue, 10th | 2–5 PM | 7–8 (Very High) | Full protection, shade breaks |
Wed, 11th | 2–5 PM | 7–8 (Very High) | SPF 30+, light long-sleeves |
Thu, 12th | 2–5 PM | 6–7 (High) | Sunscreen & hydration |
Fri, 13th | 2–5 PM | 7–8 (Very High) | Avoid peak 1–3 PM if possible |
Sat–Sun | 2–5 PM | 6–7 (High–Very High) | Same as above + extra water |
Basically: the UV index is swinging between High and Very High all week. If you’re running under the afternoon sun like me, it’s time to gear up.
𧴠My Sun Safety Plan
To protect my skin while I get back into my stride, here’s what I’m doing:
-
SPF 30+ sunscreen, applied at least 20 minutes before the run
-
A light UV-protective shirt for extra coverage
-
Cap or visor to shield my face
-
Sport sunglasses to protect my eyes (and look cool π)
-
Hydration, because hot sun = faster dehydration
-
Shaded routes like Maksimir trails or the Sava embankment whenever possible
And while I still prefer that 2–5 PM slot, I’m trying to avoid the peak UV hours around 1–2 PM.
π️ Quick Weather Snapshot
-
Monday, June 9: High 23°C, UV 6
-
Tuesday, June 10: High 27°C, UV 8
-
Wednesday, June 11: High 29°C, UV 8
-
Thursday–Friday: Sunny, hot, UV still very high
-
Weekend (June 14–15): Up to 32°C! Summer mode activated hehe
✅ Final Thoughts
The sun feels great when you're finally feeling better—but it doesn’t play. This week, I’m running smarter with SPF 30+ and a plan.
If you’re out there too, take care of your skin, stay hydrated, and enjoy every step. ππͺ
Let’s make this week a good one. See you on the path! Happy running — and maybe blogging!
