Vibrant Life All Around
In short: Purple loosestrife is a wetland invader with dense spikes of small flowers and square stems, while Verbascum phoeniceum is a shorter, garden-friendly mullein with larger, more open flowers.
Yesterday, I took a long walk around the area and was pleasantly surprised by the lush vegetation.
Fortunately, there hasn’t been a long period of drought, so the grass and other plants looked vibrant.
I came across a new popular flower — a cross between Verbascum nigrum and pokeweed.
It was purple, and the computer identified it as Verbascum phoeniceum ‘Violetta’ (Purple Mullein).
That’s exactly how I remembered it.
I sat in that desert park for hours, eating, drinking plenty of fluids, and browsing online. Small insects — mosquitoes and others — kept biting me. I didn’t let them bother me, brushing them away so I could fully focus on my primary activity at the time.
Exploring this green haven reminded me to pause and appreciate the subtle wonders all around us. Nature’s colors, textures, and unexpected surprises provide moments of calm and inspiration.
For anyone seeking a blend of tranquility and discovery, a walk like this is the perfect escape. Let the vibrant life around you spark curiosity and joy in your everyday routine.
