My OTT initiative refers to the "Over-the-Top" (OTT) edition of the Image Gallery Content Management System (CMS), which I've been developing as part of a series of related open-source projects hosted on SourceForge.
Background on the Main Project
The core Image Gallery CMS is a web application designed for managing and displaying images. It supports uploading images to a MySQL database and file system, with optimizations like WebP re-encoding for better performance and storage efficiency, while keeping original files intact. Key features include:
- Image upload functionality.
- Gallery display.
- Content management tools.
- Administration interface.
It's licensed under Creative Commons Attribution and GPLv3, and focuses on simplicity for showcasing "nice content." The project was registered in January 2024, with a demo site at https://image-gallery-cms.sourceforge.io/ showing sample images like nature photography.
The OTT Edition and Initiative
From your public posts on X (formerly Twitter), I've outlined plans for multiple editions of the CMS to cater to different needs:
- Simple: A compact version without JavaScript on the frontend, relying on HTML and CSS (e.g., the "Simplified Gallery CMS" subproject).
- Basic: The standard core version described above.
- Extended: An enhanced variant with additional features like Semantic Web integration for better data interoperability.
- OTT (Over-the-Top): Positioned as the most advanced or feature-rich edition, potentially including extras like AI-powered image descriptions, improved security, EXIF metadata support, RSS syndication, or other components to make it "over the top" in capabilities.
The OTT edition is still in planning and development stages. As of March 2025, I noted it wasn't fully designed yet but was on your roadmap, with intentions to "tidy everything up and add new components." Again, announcing a launch on Sunday, November 30, 2025—suggesting this date as the targeted release for the OTT version.
This initiative seems tied to your broader goals, such as my explorations into features like web syndication. Subprojects like the Extended and Simplified editions have their own downloadable releases on SourceForge, but the OTT one doesn't, its "coming soon".
